Aaavalaaanche!

With a luxurious holiday break on the horizon, some of us may be headed towards the mountains in search of snow. Having traveled into the snowy backcountry on several occasions, I've learned that ignorance is not bliss in regards to avalanche safety. Avalanche accidents don't happen due to bizarre quirks of fate. There are physical and human factors that underpin each accident.



Before you venture "off-piste", a lot can be learned about the factors that lead to avalanche accidents. It starts with some basic awareness. The video below offers valuable insight into the importance of managing avalanche risk in the backcountry...

A 'Kentucky Avalanche' sounds like it could be a euphemism for something... not sure what....
